Recommendations for a great summer escape 📚

SLP Friend,

Well, aren't you the literary type! I sent out a survey asking for reading suggestions this summer and you shared some great insights:

  • 70% read 1-2 books/month and 15% read 1/week!
  • current fiction (45%) and historical fiction (40%) were the preferred genre

I'm summarizing the recommendations you generously shared in each category, but due to the sheer number of responses, titles that received a single vote aren't listed nor are ones that are out-of-print or hard to find. Be sure to save this email for future reference! (List contains affiliate links.)

Current Fiction

Historical Fiction

Science Fiction

Romance (overwhelmingly listed by author)

Mystery/Thriller (another group listed primarily by author)

I'm planning to read The Anxious Generation and Table for Two this summer (Gentleman in Moscow is one of my favorites). Anyone have thoughts on either of these?

I have a book....issue. If you are also looking for ways to support your habit, but save money and space consider:

  • using the library
  • asking a middle/high school teacher friend to loan you a few titles (many on the list are commonly assigned reading)
  • buying (then reselling!) at your local second hand bookstore
  • coordinating with a few friends so you each buy one new title and rotate every other week
  • organize a book swap in the teachers' lounge
  • getting an Audible subscription (I find mysteries particularly good on road trips)

Enjoy your long weekend! I hope you close your laptop and put down your phone and just enjoy the time off. I promise it will all be there when you pick it up again on Tuesday 😉

P.S. If you are looking for something easy to get you through the next few weeks, be sure to check out these print-and-go resources. They're also a great choice to send home for summer or extra practice:

P.P.S. The Activity Tailor newsletter contiues during the summer months and includes special gifts and freebies for those (like me) who see students, but you need to opt-in! Click here if you don't want to miss a thing.

Reader, In North Carolina we're entering an awkward time of the year. It's too early for spring, but since we don't get much in the way of snow (this year there's been none), sticking with traditional winter themes doesn't seem right either. I've currently shifted to clothes. We're still wearing lots of jackets, hats and mittens and lots of little ones started potty training after the holidays so pulling pants down and up and underwear are a pretty common topic. These are a few of the...
